So I spent the last year of my life, and an obscene amount of $ supercharging a 1941 harley davidson, and once again Im off to Bonneville with the NOLA race team. This year I am piloting said deathtrap, and if the bike dosent explode thus severing my testicles and various other extruding body appendages, I am gauranteed ( knock on feaux wood prees board) to set a world landspeed record in the altered vintage blown gas motorcycle category. If anyone is in the salt lake city / wendover nevada area 0ct 7th 8th or 9th and wishes to either come observe and wish me luck, or laugh their asses off and take a finger or a leg or something home as a souveneir., Ill be at the bonneville world finals races on the bonneville salt flats.

Join us on September 27th at the Ace Junkyard for the Heavy Pedal Cyclecide Bike Rodeo fundraiser & annual bicycle club gathering. This year Pedal Monster will coincide with “Bike! Bike!“, the annual conference of community bike projects, hosted by San Francisco’s own Bike Kitchen and Santa Cruz's Bike Church. Bike! Bike! will bring cycleistas from around the country and we're gonna show 'em how we do it Bay Area style, It’s bound to be a week of raucous good times.

PEDAL MONSTER, the annual gathering of the tribes — as well as Cyclecide’s main fundraiser and hometown show of the year — will see marauding mutant bicycle clubs from all over the country converge on the Yay Area.
Saturdays' show features local music and performance along side CYCLECIDE'S PEDAL-POWERED CARNIVAL MIDWAY, MUTANT BIKES of DEATH, DESTRUCTION, and RIDICULOUSNESS for all to ride

Friday the 26th, bicycle enthusiasts of all shapes and sizes (and legal drinking age) are invited to converge upon Dolores Park at the conclusion of Critical Mass to join the PEDAL MONSTER POKER RUN. For a $7 entrance fee, participants will receive a bad-ass CYCLECIDE keepsake and clown-nose signifier. Then they’ll drink beer, hopefully, and embark on a madcap two-wheeled bar crawl, in an effort to collect the best poker hand and win prizes by the end of the night. There will also be drink challenges, Cyclecide theatrics, stupid awards ceremonies, and special surprises along the way.

bike rack?

Hey I'm tired of chaining my bike to the back stairs at the News & Review.
The stairs are wood and all someone has to do is break the railing to steal my bike.
I mean, it's no peugeot, but it's my transport... and besides, if more than two people
try to lock up their bikes there, it's a cluster-hump.

bike + car = me and hospital

so last night i was biking between two houses on my way to the wonderful world of sleep when some folks thought it would be an entertaining idea to try and run me over with their fancy black sedan. so here i am riding down peralta pretty fast when i hear bass and see them sitting there then i hear a screech from their car and they shoot at me in a t-bone fashion. i swerve out of the way and stop my forward momentum with my backwards face and hand. they come to an almost stop within feet of me and jet off while i am spitting out chunks of my teeth. i start to get up when i notice my finger is crooked at a 30 degree angle and twisted, in the middle and i can't really move my mouth as it is already swollen up (and still is). i get my stuff together and get of the bike adding my bloodshed to the street that has seen so much in it's life to nyssa's and start banging on the door for someone to please be home. at this point i know i'm fucked. i am not going to be able to eat very well anymore right now. and the pain is quite a nuisance, like having little nanobots with jackhammers going to town on my head. and i get a ride to the hospital (thanks ten (10) and melanie!)
now...
i am getting my finger pinned back together tomorrow and am working on borrowing alot more money than i am comfortable with at the moment. what i need to ask is if anyone know a dentist preferably in the eastbay they can refer me too. i dont know how much i can pay but i can do payment plans and have a secure job.
i think i may try and have a benefit also.......and no you can't have my tooth fragments.

The Enormous Bicycle

We grew like redwoods, equally
slow, together. I found
my bicycle crippled, tireless,
tangled in the kudzu. Resurrected,
shining like a Cadillac, we pedalled
Southern streets, the diamonds
sparkling in the asphalt rushing
beneath us. I felt the tug
of my bicycle while chained
to its rack outside the Highlander,
where I'd chained myself
to a barstool. My bicycle grew
lonely. I found another bicycle
rusting in the Salvation Army.
Sparks flew, molten metal, a bicycle
marriage. Still, my bicycle pestered
me from its lonely bike rack,
witnessing after-school fights
while I licked away the amber
whiskey trapped in my cuticles.
I bought my bicycle shots of Jaeger.
We rode to Vickery's, to the Righteous
Room, to Smith's. My bicycle and I
grew attached--as they say--at the hip.
Though, realistically, we'd fused
at the crotch. Soon I saw the pebbles
below the tires were really boulders
and automobiles, that the bike trail
was actually a grid of city streets,
and the patchwork I had taken
for flagstones were houses
and skyscrapers. My bicycle and I
topped mountains, no bunnyhopped
the Rockies, splashed across a puddle--
the Pacific. We dipped gingerly down
the side of Everest and ground the spokes
against the Great Wall. And soon
my bicycle and I had grown
too big, even, for the planet, each orbit
a single secondary lap. My cap
knocked the space station into
the asteroid belt. I stroked the moon
and my fingers came away gray with dust.
My retinas sizzled in the sun's rays.

Your bike project helped keep the "living" moop (Yahoos) out of our camp this year and we really appreciated that you kept us stacked up with the lovely "yellow" green bikes way out on the edge! I would say it was a great success! I hope you feel the same.

On a different note, I think I missed a few of you when giving out our patches this year. I know that myself or speedbump got most of you, but I seem to have a few extra of not only the green 2007ones, but the plain black "Fuck Your Day" ones as well. TECHNO AIN'T MUSIC

First of all, I know that techno is only one of many types of electronic dance 'music' -- the stuff that you hear pounding out across the playa from all of those giant rave camps on the edges of Black Rock City [BRC], and from the sound systems of the majority of the theme camps and art cars of this godforsaken town -- but for simplicity's sake, I'll just use that term. What I'm referring to when I say "techno" is ALL forms of rave 'music' -- trance, house, breakbeat, jungle, drum&bass, happy hardcore, etc, ETC.
A friend of mine once hit the nail right on the proverbial head when I watched him argue to a raver that the stuff he was dancing to was, in fact, NOT MUSIC. He said:
"Okay then, hum your favorite trance 'song' for me.' The raver was stumped for a second. He was smart enough to realize that actually trying to hum a trance beat would have made him look the fool... and then he replied,
"If it has a beat that you can dance to, then it's music."
"No, it's NOT music, it's a BEAT. It's not a song, but a VIBE." And it couldn't be better explained than that. Because since about 1996, the soundscape of BRC has increasingly become a chaotic clash of thumping vibes. Anyone who has been here a few years can attest to that. On paper, it sounds kind of cool -- chaos is a big part of what attracts me to the desert for this festival year after year. But the omnipresent techno beat can wear on a man, and might make him want to fight.
Last year was the closest I've come to fighting. Someone had the nerve to park their techno camp right behind ours, with the stated intention of having parties from 5AM until "?", so that each morning they could celebrate another sunrise by jouncing up and down to seemingly neverending prerecorded 'songs' on compact disc. For most of the week, I tolerated it, even though, I thought to myself,
"Shouldn't they have been placed on the edge of town like the rest of the big rave camps who have sunrise parties?" Of course they should have. But lucky for them, I was usually out and about during their pathetic, mindnumbing ritual, and by the time 9am rolled around and I was crashing, so were they.
Until one of the last mornings, after one of those restful, mellow nights of sitting around the fire and just chatting with campmates and new friends. I had gotten to bed 'early,' but just two hours later at 6am I was awoken by the thumping of their sound system. Not one to complain, I put my earplugs in and went back to sleep. When I awoke at 9am, I wanted to take my earplugs out, but I wasn't going to do so with their crap still blaring. So in good fun, I donned my gorilla suit and went over to them to ask them to cut it. They said they would, but fifteen minutes later when they hadn't, my friend stormed over there and pulled their plugs. A fight nearly ensued; the music never came back on; she became camp hero for the day.

"mu·sic [myoo-zik]: the sounds produced by singers or musical instruments."

That's how one dictionary defines music. So now I can hate techno not only because it annoys the hell out of me and makes me want to fight, but because it is, by definition, NOT MUSIC! A techno DJ is not a musician, he's a turntablist, which one DJ Babu once defined as "One who uses the turntable in the spirit of a musical instrument." Noise artists like Merzbow or Masonna don't call the screeching, hypnotic, sonic distortions they make music -- they call it NOISE! (as an aside: the term 'DJ' was coined in 1934 in reference to radio announcer Martin Block, who played records over the airwaves between news flashes. The D and the J stand for 'disc jockey,' and if you see a DJ listed for a party, it does NOT mean that you should expect a rave party. I can't count the times that I've had to explain to people that I'm still a DJ even though my records feature things like guitars, vocals, horns and organs).
Don't get me wrong folks -- I do believe that there is a place for everything at Burning Man (and I'll admit that there are many different, debatable ways to define music). But that's exactly my problem -- if the vast majority of what you hear out here is techno, then what we'll essentially be left with is an 'arts festival' WITHOUT MUSIC! Instead of catchy tunes and killer riffs, all we get pummeled with is a barrage of conflicting beats, which leaves us with a big fuckin' headache. I would never advocate an outright ban on techno -- but I WOULD advocate the imposition, by the powers that be, of guidelines for musical diversity. The BRDMD (Black Rock Department of Musical Diversity) -- who wants to sign up!? We'll rove the playa distributing permits for all of the genres of music that our citizens deserve to be able to choose from, thereby preventing the same old techno crud from emanating from every camp.
Anyway, I'd be willing to bet one of my hairy nuts that the majority of theme campers and artcar drivers who bring techno out to the playa don't even really like it. Okay, so you danced for three hours to it while you were high on ecstasy, but was it because of the 'music,' or because of the vibe created by the entire situation around it: the intense volume that you feel in your organs; the quivering flesh surrounding you; and your intoxicated, pulsating neurons? Are you sure you
REALLY like it, people? Wouldn't you prefer to hear some real music performed by some real, LIVE musicians amplified over those towering speaker stacks? You would dance, and you would get off harder. Because recorded music can be good, but it's nothing like a live band, with real instruments. It's like the difference between jerking off and a great fuck.
So we'd be welcome. People would be happy to have us snap their trance CDs in half and hand them a Nathaniel Mayer CD to help fulfill the Soul requirement. Or a Hasil Adkins CD to fill that Hillbilly Country gap, or a copy of the Fucking Champs 'IV', vital for providing our citizens with their Instrumental Metal fix! (I highly recommend seeking all of these artists out, it's well worth the trouble). Violators would simply have their plugs pulled. On the second offense, cords cut!
I, for one, am ready to go to work. If you are too, then stop by Jub Jub Thursday night just before sundown for our first meeting. Tuition is one bottle containing at least 16 ounces of the intoxicant of your choice. You'll be trained and suited up, and by midnight, you'll be ready to hit the field.

The Sprockettes are hittin the Road in a veggie grease Charter Bus and Heading South to the Bay area and onto Truckee CA

duke danger attacks the hospital...... and pay pal.

an update:
we took duke back to the hospital yesturday.
he's had these aweful migrain-esque headaches since we got him home.
which often lead to a puke fest, sometimes two times a day.
and he started talking jibberish.... getting confused and mixing his words all back asswards. it scared me. ( oh god he's turning into a retard )
they gave him a cat scan...(the 3rd one) and a good check over.
he's been diagnosed with post concussive syndrome.
it could last any where from the rest of his life to just one more day.
look it up on wikipedia. i did.... it's interesting.
so now he's got a new pain med. an anti nausea, and they've asked us to help him exercise his brain. so he won't be a retard.

he's able to do alot on his own now. get from his wheel chair to the bed, bathroom, car, what have you, and even hobble around a few feet at a time. his thumb on the injured hand is numb, and may stay that way. but he can move all his fingers. everything seems to be healing up nicely.

the bills are going to be crazy, and the two months recovery isn't going to make it any easier. but we'll get by. it's our nature.

we don't even know how much it's going to cost yet, but i can guesstimate.... 3.5 days in the hospital, another er visit, 1 ambulance ride, 3 cat scans, 25 x-rays, 4 doctors, 3 nurse techs, 1 metal plate, 6 screws, 2 special crutches, a shit ton of morphine, 3 prescriptions, and a partridge in a pear tree .....you know, they charge for everything.

i appreciate all the help that's been offered already, it's, well, i'm getting all misty. it's sweet. and to be honest, it's a big relief. anything anyone can do is fucking heart warming.

what's more important, at least in my eyes, is all the love that's been shown to him. so if any of you's don't know how you can help, and want to, call us, send a letter, or a package of dog shit with a friendly threatening note attached. for example... if you don't get better, get your ass on your bike and come see me, or else next time you hear from me it will be in the form of a package of vomit. he'd love that.

for those of you that would like to donate some cash-o-lah. our sweet friend wick has offered to let us use his pay-pal account. just send money to wick23@yahoo.com. he's asked that you please put dukes name in the subject line, and perhaps even enclose a message for him which he'd forward on to us.

some good news...

while at the hospital i looked into getting financial help. i found that there are two state programs we qualify for, one being the crime victims assistance, and the other is map (i forget what that stands for, but i've got the paper work somewhere.) sadly both of these two programs are not well known amongst the folks that really need it. apparently the cva, comes from a tax that's taken out of each and every fine collected here in austin, it may even spread out through all of texas. i feel like it'll be a good resource for us.... shit for anyone really... the only trick being, you have to ask.

i'm trying to get the ball rolling for a benefit here in austin. may be a down hill button making bonanza or something. i don't know to many folks here, but i'm pretty there's a least a few that'd be happy to act stoopid and ride stoopid bikes for a good cause.

the cyclecide folks are doing some brain storming as well. they've got pedal monster coming up. that's a great opportunity to pass the hat.

dookie danger was hit by a giganto suv driving asswipe. going about 45 mile an hour on s. lamar in austin late friday night.
the asswipe stopped. (i know unbelievable) he was drunk, a jerk, and uninsured. last time i checked he was still in jail.

the first three questions duke asked when the er people finally let me in to see him, (hours later all the while i'm thinking, yep he's dead, or oh sweet jesus, ((i don't even like jesus)) please let him be ok.....) were

am i dying?
is the bike ok?
will you stay with me?

to which i replied,

no.
no.
yes.

we just now got to take him home.

injuried.... oh yeah
one broken arm..... 4 screws one plate (he's so metal)
one broken leg..... big boot thingie in need of a few cocks drawn on it. 10-12 weeks.
head trauma out the wazoo.
tons of road rash, cuts that needed stitches but didn't get them, and bruises on top of bruises. and he bit his tongue so it swelled so much that he talked like a retard for almost three days.
he doesn't remember any of it, or a lot of the time we spent at the hospital. he's in A LOT of pain.
but.....
back to being a sarcastic ass hat, making demands, and in dire need of a blow job.

he's fucked, but not as fucked as he could be, or as bad off as he was a couple days ago.

the bike..... top tube broken in half, tires taco'd in two different directions, seat ripped and bent up, crank and crank arms bent, handle bars bent. fucked and fucked.

Greetings to all of you -

It has been some time since I was attacked and have been slowly returning to a relatively normal life - meaning I can now type without strain and pain. I've been meaning to write this note for some time, now, but it's taken a bit to collect my thoughts on the whole experience and grasp the enormity of it. It has been said that an early taste of death may not necessarily be a bad thing. But what has floored me the most has been the absolute landslide of love that gushed from the friends that embrace me.
The other day I was watching a wonderful movie called "The Worlds Fastest Indian". It's an incredible true story about a elderly man from New Zealand that came to the Bonniville Salt Flats in the sixties with his hand modified nineteen twenties motorcycle and broke speed records. In this movie there is a quite tender scene where he gains respect from the other racers who know that he had built the bike himself out of whatever he had, traveled eight thousand miles on pennies, and slept in his car. They passed a hat for him.
There has been a chaos of emotions that have been brewing and boiling in me for months now, and sitting there watching this scene was all the trigger they needed to fuse and swell into a river of tears.

I'm the luckiest guy on the planet.

Thanks to you all, I have been able to spend the last few months laying low and channeling my energies toward healing up. Broken bones suck! But most of the anguish and hatred is burning off like the morning fog, and I can't wait to get to the desert. The great news is that I will be easing back to work on Monday starting with half days - then more as I can handle it. Of course the bills are to the moon, but all has been arranged into an affordable plan. Nothing left but to heave a huge sigh and attempt to even try to express to you how much I love you! With friends like these, we really can change the world!! That was the plan all along, right?

As far as the chicken-shit teen punks that hit me - I can only keep replacing the grains of hatred with those of sorrow. What I see in them is the naked nose bleed of a nose that was broke very long ago. The big crime is in the waste of lives and minds that have been reared in environments of ignorance and hatred. Some of these kids never even had a chance. And now we have wild packs of dogs that roam the streets and continue to hold our neighborhoods hostage. I don't see an easy solution coming any time soon as the pendulum of hatred and blame continues to swing.

So all we can do is continue to band together and not become the vessels of revenge that would surly injure us much more than any broken bones!

So all my unconditional love to you all, and thanks again so much to you!!

if true how did it work?

my reason for asking is i'm involved with the Black Rock International Burner Hostel (freaken mouth full huh?) http://burnerhostel.tribe.net/
it's run out of Fred Hagemeisters (Hagey) place in Sparks,Reno
our camp has some 130 people from all around the world and a bunch of state side folk who make the journey each year to the Playa
anyhooo, Hagey has this fetish thing for bikes.....so he has, over the recent years pruchased or been gifted heaps of bikes..aprox 80 in storage at present

now bikes are good mmmmk..but they are a pig to store, maintain, and transport to and from the Playa just for the pleasure of those in our camp to cruise around on

so i was thinking that if the experiment worked and you were looking to increase the size of your bike pool would you be interested in taking over the bikes/adding them to your pool and having them available to the citizens of black rock?

i'm not sure how this would work ( on the Playa) but if there was 3 stations...one near Center Camp, one at 3 o'clock and one at 9 o'clock
then maybe people would be inclined to return the bikes to the nearest station!!??

our camp is near the 9 o'clock key hole and could be a perminent station but it would be your responsibility to set up, monitor ( with our help) and remove post event
we also have some cohorts at 3 o'clock in the form of Kamp Apokoliptica which this year are forming Terminal City a large collective of camps http://www.apokiliptika.com/terminal_city_page.htm
i havnt' talked to them about this as yet but if you think this could work and is worth the effort i'll give them a heads up......

allright you fuckers. you might be smart but you are not that smart. we see what is happening here. every time big daddy goes to a black label event he is injured...fucked up back. broken wrist. then there was the incident with shadow and the black labeler that "accientaly" dumped bioling water on her head. then theres what happened on doyles ride in europe where his eyes turned blood red and he bled out of his ears. he is convinced there is a plot against him. i was told when he does not get injured at black label events that the injury count exponentially increases.
my question is ..why?
and can't you just leave him alone and wish him well for the new year...

Four years ago, fifteen black labels came down to Chicago to ride with the Rat Patrol in the official Chicago St. Patrick's Day parade. Suffice to say that it blew mighty chunks. Four hours of waiting in line for a 15-minute parade that was so beer- and cheer-free that it seemed like the specators were at some manditory dictator's birthday.

Since then, we've been throwing our own parade, down 18th street, with a rolling bonfire. We have demolition derbies and joust in an abandoned concrete elevator. We build big tv-smashers and have a TV smash. We crash the south side irish parade (where the drinkin is). All bike clubs are welcome to join us this year, March 16-18

i was in the hospital twice over the past few days for a migraine that has had me floored. i mean i seriously thought that i was going to die from how bad my brain hurt. the doctor said they thought there was an infection in in and gave me a spinal tap as well as pumped me with atleast two pints of antibiotics intraveinously if not more than that. i had the migraine since saturday morning. i could barely move out of bed let alone do anything else. shit sucked. i am feeling a bit better now but that could be the percocet. but it wasn't my pancreas this time, yeah?

everyone is asking em how to do this shit so here it is plain and simple. unless you make tons of money grants are given to planned parenthood to keep poor people from breeding. so you can go in tehre say your broke and have the inital interview. then the p[reocedureis a month later to give you mroe time to think about it. then it tkaes 20 minutes. oh, and riding a bike afterwards is a whole nwe experience. kind of a painful one also. then you have about 15 ejaculations ( i know i said ejaculate mike, shut up) and your pretty clear. you take a sample in after three months and then yearly. i am back to normal now pretty much minus some bruising still. so whatcha' waitin for. get yer shit snipped everyones doin it ya hear

just a reminder, if you are black label you are only black label. last i heard you can support or be affiliated with another club but you cannot rock our colors one day and theirs the next. cross pollination is encouraged, however. so is wearing their colors when they forget them at your house, and doing embarrassing things in them. or so i've been told.

NYC

Once again Tucson has tried to trap me and failed. I lost my job and have no way to make enough $ to drive the van north. (sorry Miles, you can kick me when you get to NYC.) So I of course spent my last few bucks on a one way plane ticket to NYC. I land at JFK at 730am on Oct. 25th. I am shipping my bike and will have only one bag. I am staying at 3rd & Ave. A. Anyone who wants to meet me at the airport will be rewarded with cheap beer and my eternal gratitude.
