an update:
we took duke back to the hospital yesturday.
he's had these aweful migrain-esque headaches since we got him home.
which often lead to a puke fest, sometimes two times a day.
and he started talking jibberish.... getting confused and mixing his words all back asswards. it scared me. ( oh god he's turning into a retard )
they gave him a cat scan...(the 3rd one) and a good check over.
he's been diagnosed with post concussive syndrome.
it could last any where from the rest of his life to just one more day.
look it up on wikipedia. i did.... it's interesting.
so now he's got a new pain med. an anti nausea, and they've asked us to help him exercise his brain. so he won't be a retard.

he's able to do alot on his own now. get from his wheel chair to the bed, bathroom, car, what have you, and even hobble around a few feet at a time. his thumb on the injured hand is numb, and may stay that way. but he can move all his fingers. everything seems to be healing up nicely.


the bills are going to be crazy, and the two months recovery isn't going to make it any easier. but we'll get by. it's our nature.

we don't even know how much it's going to cost yet, but i can guesstimate.... 3.5 days in the hospital, another er visit, 1 ambulance ride, 3 cat scans, 25 x-rays, 4 doctors, 3 nurse techs, 1 metal plate, 6 screws, 2 special crutches, a shit ton of morphine, 3 prescriptions, and a partridge in a pear tree .....you know, they charge for everything.

i appreciate all the help that's been offered already, it's, well, i'm getting all misty. it's sweet. and to be honest, it's a big relief. anything anyone can do is fucking heart warming.

what's more important, at least in my eyes, is all the love that's been shown to him. so if any of you's don't know how you can help, and want to, call us, send a letter, or a package of dog shit with a friendly threatening note attached. for example... if you don't get better, get your ass on your bike and come see me, or else next time you hear from me it will be in the form of a package of vomit. he'd love that.

some good news...


while at the hospital i looked into getting financial help. i found that there are two state programs we qualify for, one being the crime victims assistance, and the other is map (i forget what that stands for, but i've got the paper work somewhere.) sadly both of these two programs are not well known amongst the folks that really need it. apparently the cva, comes from a tax that's taken out of each and every fine collected here in austin, it may even spread out through all of texas. i feel like it'll be a good resource for us.... shit for anyone really... the only trick being, you have to ask.

i'm trying to get the ball rolling for a benefit here in austin. may be a down hill button making bonanza or something. i don't know to many folks here, but i'm pretty there's a least a few that'd be happy to act stoopid and ride stoopid bikes for a good cause.

the cyclecide folks are doing some brain storming as well. they've got pedal monster coming up. that's a great opportunity to pass the hat.
